Usher and Young Jeezy Are Back in the Lab

Usher, Young Jeezy, and J.D.

Usher and Young Jeezy are cooking up another smash. After topping the charts with 2008’s “Love in This Club,” the ATL superstars reunited in the lab to record for Usher’s upcoming album. With Jermaine Dupri behind the boards, the two logged a late-night session at J.D.’s Atlanta studio.

Usher has been working closely with his longtime collaborator J.D. on the follow-up to 2012’s Looking 4 Myself.

“It’s gonna be frickin’ out of here,” Usher previously said of the project. “Space and sky is what it will be. If you look up, it’s everything you could imagine.”

Meanwhile, Jeezy has been killing the clubs with his latest anthem “R.I.P.,” for which he just dropped a remix featuring Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, and YG.

Peep more pics from Usher and Jeezy’s Saturday night session below.

Rap-Up TV: Eric Bellinger Talks About Writing Chris Brown’s ‘Fine China’

Chris Brown will present “Fine China” to the world on Monday. On the eve of its release, singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger spoke to Rap-Up TV about writing the R&B record, which serves as the first single off Chris’ sixth album X.

“When you hear that, it’s gonna be something that Chris hasn’t done yet,” said the hitmaker, who’s previously written for Chris as well as Usher and Justin Bieber. “He really, really went back to the days of Sam Cooke, but we were still able to keep it 2013 at the same time.”

X is a throwback to the past. “Justin Timberlake really opened the lane for real music and we’re just gonna go running through it,” added Bellinger, whose mixtape Born II Sing, Vol. 3 drops April 15. “For so long, people have been deprived of that kind of sound.”

The album was heavily inspired by Michael Jackson, whose influence can be heard on the Danja-produced “Add Me In,” which he also penned. “I studied Michael so much and never do I get to really embody that. On this project, they were like, ‘Just do Michael.’”

Being around Chris in the studio made him realize his remarkable talent. “He was born to do this. He’s our new Michael Jackson. They can say whatever they want about him, but no one can knock his talent.”

Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna aren’t the only stars set to appear on Chris Brown’s new album X. Nicki Minaj has just been added to the guest list.

After scoring a hit with “Right By My Side” off Nicki’s album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, the two have teamed up for another collaboration, this time for Chris’ upcoming sixth album.

Chris previously revealed that Kendrick would appear on the somber ballad “Autumn Leaves,” while he recorded an R&B duet with Rihanna called “Put It Up.”

X is due this summer featuring production from Timbaland, Polow Da Don, Danja, Pharrell, and Drumma Boy. “I tried to stay away from the Euro beats, and not go totally pop,” Chris told Rolling Stone. “Instead, I wanted to take the Quincy Jones approach. The record pays homage to the Stevie Wonders, the Michael Jacksons, the Sam Cookes: I wanted to put that classic essence of R&B and soul with the new age of music now.”

Early reviews are starting to trickle in. Billboard writes, “Fair weathered Odd Future fans might find Wolf to be another notch in Tyler’s dysfunctional belt. Chris Brown Talks Drake and Frank Ocean Beefs, Tupac Comparisons

Chris Brown

Chris Brown has been everywhere this week. He capped off his press blitz with a return visit to “Big Boy’s Neighborhood” on Power 106 on Friday. Breezy spoke about his new album X, due in June or July, his beefs with Drake and Frank Ocean, being compared to Tupac, and collaborating with Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.

On his relationship with Drake: “It’s not entertainment for me. It’s just more of me being real, saying what I gotta say. I ain’t out here trying to go at him, I ain’t got people after him. I have my differences and he has his. His music’s still hot.”

On his fight with Frank Ocean: “Some stuff went down, but it’s whatever. It’s always sensationalized and always blown out of proportion. I got respect for his music. I got respect for everybody else, so I ain’t really tryna go back down that route. Everything for me is moving forward.”

On collaborating with Rihanna: “Right now, I have a couple songs that I wrote for her album and mine that she’s featured on. The song’s called ‘Put It Up.’”

On comparisons to Tupac: “I just identify with a young black male who deals with trials and tribulations and can express his art through his poetry. I’m passionate so I can identify with that. Everything I do, I wear my heart on my sleeve.”

On working with Jennifer Lopez: “I’m just writing for her album. I got a couple other songs on my album that would be a great girl feature, especially for me and J.Lo. I just want to do a dope dance video with me and her.”

Rick Ross Calls ‘U.O.E.N.O.’ Rape Lyrics a ‘Misunderstanding’

Rick Ross

Rick Ross has come under fire for his suggestive lyrics on Rocko’s single “U.O.E.N.O.,” on which he raps about slipping a molly in a woman’s drink and taking her home. The Maybach Music boss has responded to the controversy, calling it all a misunderstanding.

“Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it,” raps Rozay on the Gift of Gab 2 mixtape cut, which also features Future.

During a visit to New Orleans radio station Q93 this week, he denied that the lyrics were implying date rape.

“I want to make sure this is clear that woman is the most precious gift known to man,” said the 37-year-old rap mogul. “It was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation where the term rape wasn’t used.”

He distanced himself from the allegations. “But I would never use the term rape in my records and as far as my camp, hip-hop don’t condone that, the streets don’t condone that. Nobody condones that,” he said, while extending an apology to his female fans who were offended.

“I just wanted to reach out to all the queens that’s on my timeline, all the sexy ladies, the beautiful ladies that had been reaching out to me with the misunderstanding. We don’t condone rape and I’m not with that.”

But it may be too late. Activists are calling for Reebok to drop Ross as its spokesman. “When a company rewards a man who raps about raping women, that’s promoting rape culture. Reebok needs to know that we won’t stand for this,” says UltraViolet, a women’s rights organization who started an online petition.

Listen to the controversial lyrics and hear Rozay’s response below.
