Mariah Carey Announces New Album ‘Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’

Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse

As promised, Mariah Carey has announced all the details surrounding her 14th album including a title, release date, cover art, and tracklisting.

The pop diva took to Twitter on her sixth wedding anniversary and Dem Babies’ third birthday to reveal Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse. The album, which is now available for pre-order on iTunes, will be released on May 27 featuring the singles “You’re Mine (Eternal)” and “#Beautiful.”

The title was inspired by a self-portrait that she drew when she was three years old. The illustration is also featured on the back cover.

“Please don’t judge me for such a simplistic title. Come on, I was only three-and-a-half,” said Mariah. “It was a creative visualization of how I saw myself with the purity of a child’s heart before it was ever broken.”

The 15-track standard edition features appearances from Nas, Wale, Fabolous, and Miguel, with production from Hit-Boy, Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, and more.

The deluxe adds three additional tracks including last year’s ballad “The Art of Letting Go” and her previously leaked collaborations with R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige off her scrapped Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel remix album.

During his visit to Howard Stern this week, he also revealed that “Happy” was originally recorded by CeeLo Green (“He wanted to do it, but I think some folks on his team just felt that the priority should’ve been on his album at the time”) and that he first offered Britney Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U” to Janet Jackson.

Future and Iggy Azalea Score Top 3 Debuts

Future and Iggy Azalea

It was a close call on the charts this week as Future and Iggy Azalea battled it out for the No. 2 spot.

The Atlanta rapper’s sophomore album Honest squeaks into second place on the Billboard 200, selling 53,000 copies in its first week. He earns his best sales week and highest-charting album yet following his 2012 debut Pluto, which entered at No. 8 (41,000).

Not far behind is Aussie rap sensation Iggy Azalea, who works her way into the No. 3 spot with her debut The New Classic. Led by the Charli XCX-assisted hit “Fancy,” the album was just shy of 1,000 copies away from Future with 52,000.

The New Classic is the highest-charting rap album from a woman on the Billboard 200 since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded debuted at No. 1 in April 2012.

Last week, industry pundits predicted that Iggy would outsell Future, but Future moved more physical units.

However, both were no match for Disney’s Frozen, which once again ruled the Billboard 200 with an additional 115,000 copies.

Nicki Minaj Scores No. 1 Movie with ‘The Other Woman’

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj can add another No. 1 to her résumé. The rapper-turned-actor helped lead The Other Woman to a box office victory over the weekend.

The romantic comedy co-starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton opened with $24.7 million in North America, unseating Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Nicki makes her big screen acting debut as Diaz’ opinionated assistant Lydia in the film, directed by Nick Cassavetes.

“I was so nervous,” Nicki said of her role. “I felt a lot of pressure ’cause I am sitting this close to Cameron Diaz and I know if I don’t get my lines right, she has to do her lines over. That pressure was scary.”

The debut exceeded analysts’ forecasts of $17 million.

This is not Nicki’s first No. 1 film. She previously voiced a woolly mammoth in the animated movie Ice Age: Continental Drift, which opened with $46 million in July 2012.
