M.I.A. is back with a bang. The rebellious rapper debuts her boisterous new single, “Bring the Noize,” which pays tribute to Public Enemy’s 1987 song of the same name.
“Bring the noize when we run upon dem,” she raps on the drum-heavy record, which deals with the concept of freedom.
“It was written in lots of different circumstances, but I guess it’s coming out at a time where I think in America it’s kinda cool to hear something like this,” M.I.A. told Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. “It’s in keeping with what I released before, so I’m gonna gradually ease people into the new sound as the album goes on.”
Her fourth album Matangi is still awaiting a release date. “I’ve given up at this point,” she said. “I was literally just kinda gonna start making records and putting them out from the bedroom straight on the Internet. This is my last stab at it.”
