André 3000 Steps Out at ‘Jimi: All Is By My Side’ Premiere

André 3000 aka André Benjamin made a rare appearance at the premiere of the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side in Hollywood last night. Donning denim with an orange beanie and white sunglasses, the reclusive rapper spoke to reporters on the red carpet and posed with director John Ridley and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

Benjamin plays the iconic rock guitarist in the film, which follows Hendrix in the years prior to his fame. “I learned his humility, I learned his cockiness, I learned his shyness, I learned the other side of everything I did not know before we did the film,” he told Hollywood Today.

While there are currently no plans for another OutKast album, he did toy with the idea of an OutKast biopic.

“It would be great to make an OutKast movie right now, but instead of really serious, make it a full comedy—like Kevin Hart would play Big Boi,” he said. As for who would play him? “We should cast somebody stupid—like Leonardo [DiCaprio].”

A solo album may or may not be in the future, but in the meantime he has produced for Aretha Franklin’s upcoming covers album.

Jimi: All Is By My Side hits theaters on September 26.
