After attending the premiere earlier in the week, the reclusive André Benjamin stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday to promote the Jimi Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is By My Side.
One of the greatest challenges he faced while preparing for the role was learning to play guitar left-handed. “I had to make it look like I had been playing that way for years, which is hard,” said the OutKast rapper.
He admired Hendrix’s confidence, but surprisingly lacks confidence in himself. “I’m not really confident in my talents in that way,” admitted Dre. “The only thing I’m confident in is knowing that I’m excited about new things.”
In honor of OutKast’s 20th anniversary tour, Ellen presented him with a custom jumpsuit like the ones he’s been wearing on stage.
As their festival run winds down, OutKast will headline a three-day stint at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park on September 26-28 with special guests Kid Cudi, B.o.B, Solange, Janelle Monáe, 2 Chainz, and Childish Gambino.
