New Music: Mary J. Blige – ‘Whole Damn Year’

Whole Damn Year

Love hurts. Mary J. Blige bares her heart and soul on “Whole Damn Year,” the new single from her upcoming album The London Sessions. On the minimalistic piano-driven track, a fragile Mary shares her pain as she reflects on a bad breakup that left her emotionally scarred.

“It took a whole damn year to repair my body / It’s been a bad five years / Gone take a long, long year for me to trust somebody,” sing MJB.

The R&B veteran spent the summer in the studio with U.K. hitmakers including Sam Smith, Disclosure, Eg White, Emile Sandé, Jimmy Napes, Naughty Boy, and SAM ROMANS.

The album, her first since 2011’s My Life II…The Journey Continues (Act I), will be released December 2 on Capitol Records.
