After shooting his “Guts Over Fear” video in Detroit, Eminem made a surprise appearance at WSJ. Magazine’s 2014 Innovator Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in New York on Wednesday. A nervous Em took the podium to honor his mentor Dr. Dre and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine for their entrepreneurship.

“Dre and Jimmy are like a force of nature,” said Em as he read off notecards. “As an example of how powerful they are, they had me fly here all the way from Detroit to speak publicly, and I really hate public speaking.”

Dre and Iovine recently launched their undergraduate academy at USC with the goal of inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs. The Beats co-founders, who sold their company to Apple for $3 billion, bankrolled the academy with a $70 million donation.

Em is gearing up to release his double-disc album ShadyXV on November 24 featuring Slaughterhouse, 50 Cent, Big Sean, DeJ Loaf, and more.

During Wednesday’s ceremony, Madonna was also on hand to present the performing arts award to jookin master Lil Buck.
