Pharrell Williams gets fly for the February issue of GQ, celebrating the year’s most influential music makers.
The fashion icon dons a leather motorcycle jacket on the cover and sips tea while sitting in bed in a onesie. The magazine follows the “man who never sleeps” around L.A.—from the mall to “The Voice” to the studio—and observes what it’s like to be a “relentless pop-culture machine.” During their ride alongs with P, he spoke candidly about some of his collaborators including T.I. and Big Sean.
On T.I.’s Paperwork: “I wasn’t happy about the T.I. situation. They did that record hoping for radio play, and they got nothing out of it…. Great, you got your No. 1 hip-hop song. But what does that do for your sales?”
On a new record he did for Big Sean: “It’s not what we talked about, man. But it’s haaaaard. It’s like ghost-of-Shaka-Zulu hard!”
On why he surrounds himself with women: “Women have a way of expressing themselves that I can relate to more honestly. I am a sensitive person, so I want to be with sensitive people.”
The issue, which also features interviews with Iggy Azalea and ILoveMakonnen, hits newsstands nationwide on Jan. 27.
